 IBPS SO 2017-18 SYLLABUS is designed separately for the post of Law Officer & Rajbhasha Adhikari and Other Specialist Officers. The IBPS SO syllabus is designed separately for Preliminary Exam and Mains Exam. Apart from the major three sections of English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning ,a candidate is required to be fluent in his/her area of expertise or the Specialization Subjects.

 

IBPS SO 2017-18 SYLLABUS

QUANTITATIVE APPTITUDE (Topic wise):

 

 (1) SIMPLIFICATION:

  • Weightage of questions → 0 – 5 Questions
  • Level  →  Easy to Solve, Less Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible.
  • Format of questions → BODMAS Rule, Approximation, Decimals, Fractions, Surds & Indices, Percentages, etc.

 

 (2) AVERAGE:

  • Weightage of questions → 1 – 2 Questions
  • Level of questions → Easy to Solve, Less Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible.
  • Format of questions → Average Weight/Height/Age/Marks, Average Money Expenditure, Average Temperature, etc. However, the concept remains simple. We have to use a single formula i.e. Average = Sum of Quantities/Number of Quantities

 

 (3) PERCENTAGE:

  • Weightage of questions →0 – 1 Question
  • Level of questions → Easy to Solve, Less Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible.
  • Format of questions →Calculation-oriented basic percentage.

 

(4) RATIO AND PROPORTION:

  • Weightage of questions  → 1 – 2 Questions
  • Level of questions → Easy to Solve, Less Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible.
  • Format of questions → Simple Ratios, Compound Ratios, Third/Fourth Proportion, Componendo and Dividendo, Direct & Indirect Proportions.

 

(5) DATA INTERPRETATION:

  • Weightage of questions  → 15 – 20 Questions (3 – 4 sets)
  • Level of question  → Easy to Moderate in Difficulty, Moderately Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible
  • Format of questions → Line Graphs, Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Tables, Miscellaneous Infographics, Missing Data Type Caselets.

 

(6) MENSURATION & GEOMETRY:

  • Weightage of questions → 2 – 3 Questions
  • Level of questions → Easy to Moderate in Difficulty, Moderately Time Consuming, High Accuracy Possible.
  • Format of questions→ Area/Volume of Square, Rectangle, Trapezium, Parallelogram, Rhombus, Circle, Semicircle, Triangle, Cone, Cylinder, Cube, Cuboid. Also, Moulding from one shape to another etc.

 

 (7) QUADRATIC EQUATIONS:

  • Weightage of questions → 5 Questions (Comparison of 2 variables), 0-1 questions within other topics such as age, algebraic equations, etc.
  • Level of questions → Scoring, Easy if Proper Steps Followed, Less Time Consuming.
  • Format of questions → Comparing values of x and y when two equations given.

 

 (8) INTEREST:

  • Weightage of questions → 2 – 3 Questions
  • Level of questions  → Scoring, Easy if Formulas & Proper Steps Followed, Moderately Time Consuming.
  • Format of questions → Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Mixed Interest, Instalments.

 

 (9) LINEAR EQUATIONS IN ONE, TWO OR MORE VARIABLES:

  • Weightage of questions → 1 – 2 Questions
  • Level of questions → Scoring, Easy if Proper Steps Followed, Less Time Consuming.
  • Format of questions → Problems on Ages, algebraic equations, application based questions, ratio of ages, average of ages, etc.

 

(10) PROFIT AND LOSS:

  • Weightage of questions → 2 – 3 Questions
  • Level of questions → Scoring, Easy if Proper Steps Followed, Moderately Time Consuming.
  • Format of questions → Successive Selling type questions, Partnerships, Discount & MP, Dishonest Dealings.

 

(12) NUMBER SERIES:

  • Weightage of questions → 5 Questions
  • Level of questions  → Scoring, Moderate in Difficulty, Moderately Time Consuming
  • Format of questions → Complete the Series, Find the Missing Term, Find the Wrong Term etc.

 

 (13) SPEED, TIME AND DISTANCE:

  • Weightage of questions → 2 – 3 Questions

  • Format of questions → Relative Speed, Average Speed, Problems on Train, Boat & Stream.

 

(14) TIME AND WORK:

  • Weightage of marks  → 2 – 3 Questions
  • Level of questions →Moderate in Difficulty, Moderately Time Consuming
  • Level of questions →Work Efficiency, Work & Wages, Pipes & Cisterns etc.

 

 (15) NUMBER SYSTEMS:

  • Weightage of marks   → 1 – 2 Question
  • Level of questions → Could be tricky, Moderately time Consuming
  • Level of questions → Divisibility & Remainder, Multiples & Factors, Integers, LCM & HCF.

 

 (16) DATA SUFFICIENCY:

  • Weightage of marks → 5 Questions
  • Level of questions → Moderate in Difficulty, Moderately Time Consuming, Tricky
  • Format of questions → DS questions based on Number System, Averages, Percentages, Ratio & Proportion, Profit & Loss, Simple & Compound Interest, Time Speed & Distance, Time & Work, Problems on Age, Mensuration, Mixtures & Alligations.

 

(17) PERMUTATION & COMBINATION / PROBABILITY

  • Weightage of marks → 1 – 2 Questions
  • Level of questions → Less Time Consuming, Scoring, Easy if all cases considered
  • Format of questions → Basic Selection & Arrangement Problems, Very basic problems on Probability.

 

(18) MIXTURES & ALLIGATIONS

  • Weightage of marks  → 0 – 1 Question
  • Level of questions → Tricky, Time Consuming
  • Format of questions → Mixture of two or more entities/mixtures, dishonest dealings.

 

IBPS SO 2017-18 SYLLABUS – ENGLISH                      

 

(1) READING COMPREHENSION:

  • Weightage of marks   → 14 – 15 Questions
  • Level of questions → Tougher than Prelims RC, Moderate to Tough, Moderate Accuracy Possible.
  • Format of questions → The passage will be focused on topics like Business, Social Issues, Banking & Economy, Technology, Geo politics, etc. Fact and Inference based questions – easy to moderate, Vocab & Theme based questions – moderate to tough. Expect 7-8 synonyms/antonyms (vocab based questions).

 

(2) GRAMMAR (error spotting, phrase replacement, fill in the blanks):

  • Weightage of questions → 10 – 15 Questions
  • Level of questions → Easy to Moderate in Difficulty, Less to Moderately Time Consuming, Moderate Accuracy Possible.
  • Format of questions →  Error Spotting, Phrase Replacement/ Sentence Correction, Fill in the Blanks.
  • Topics Covered → Tenses, Articles, Prepositions, Subject Verb Agreement, Parallelism, Degrees of Comparison, Sentence Construction, Phrasal Verbs, Pronouns, Adverbs, Non-Finite Verbs, Common Errors etc.

 

 (3) VOCABULARY (cloze test, fill in the blanks, phrase replacement, error spotting, etc.):

  • Weightage of questions → 15 – 20 Questions
  • Level of questions → Easy to Moderate Difficulty, Quick Solve based on Contextual usage, Moderate to High Accuracy possible.
  • Format of questions →  Error Spotting, Phrase Replacement, Cloze Test (single passage with 5-10 questions), Fill in the Blanks (Double Blanks).

 

(4) VERBAL ABILITY (PARA JUMBLES):  

  • Weightage of questions → 5 Questions
  • Level of questions → Easy, Low to Moderately Time Consuming, High Accuracy possible.
  • Format of questions → Para Jumbles, You can expect Odd sentence out questions too.

(1) FINANCIAL AWARENESS:

  • Weightage of questions → 15 – 20 Questions
  • Level of questions → Moderate to Difficult level of difficulty, Moderate to High Accuracy Possible, Not very time consuming
  • Format of Question → Banking and Economy related facts like budget, railway budget, economic survey, etc.; Roles and functions of institutions like RBI, NABARD, SIDBI, etc.; Currencies of various countries; International Trade, Acquisitions and Deals; New Policies and Pacts; Trade Deficits, Exchange Rate, GDP growth, etc. of various countries; Banking related facts.

 

 (2) CURRENT AFFAIRS:

  • Weightage of questions  → 7 – 10 Questions
  • Level of questions → Easy to Highly Difficult, Moderate to High Accuracy possible.
  • Format of Question → Questions that test your knowledge of surroundings and everyday events, banking and economy related news, National and International news, Books by famous personalities, etc.

 

 (3) GENERAL KNOWLEDGE:

  • Weightage of questions  → 5 – 10 Questions
  • Level of questions → Moderate level of difficulty, Moderate to high accuracy possible, moderately time consuming.
  • Format of Question → important facts or events related to History, Polity, Geography, Science, Environment, etc.

 

IBPS SO 2017-18 SYLLABUS  – REASONING

 

(1) Verbal Reasoning:

  • Weightage of questions → 7 – 10 Questions
  • Level of questions → Moderate to difficult in difficulty, Time consuming, Moderate accuracy possible, Very likely to appear.
  • Format of Questions → Statement and assumption, statement and inference, course of action, cause and effect, statement and arguments, critical reasoning.

 

(2) Syllogisms:

  • Weightage of questions → 5 Questions
  • Level of questions →Moderate to difficult in difficulty, Less time consuming, Moderate Accuracy possible, Very likely to appear.
  • Format of Questions  → Direct questions with 3-4 statements & 4-5 conclusions, possibility based questions, negative information based questions.

 

(3) CIRCULAR SEATING ARRANGEMENT

  • Weightage of questions → 5-7 Questions
  • Level of questions → Moderate to Difficult, Moderate to Highly Time Consuming, Moderate to High Accuracy possible, Requires clean charting with proper technique and step-by-step solving.
  • Format of Questions  → Uni- & Bi-directional problems on circular, square, rectangular, hexagonal tables. May be combined with other information to make it a Blood Relations or Double Line-up type problem as well.

 

 (4) Linear Seating Arrangement:

  • Weightage of questions → 5 – 10 Questions
  • Level of questions →  Moderate to Difficult, Could be tricky, Moderate to Highly Time Consuming, Moderate to High Accuracy possible, Requires clean charting with proper technique and step-by-step solving.
  • Format Questions →Single or Double rows facing each other/ away from each other/ in the same direction. 5-4 questions based on multi-storey building. May be combined with other information to make it a Blood Relations or Double Lineup type problem as well.

  • Format of Questions  → Arranging by age, height, weight, rank, order in row etc.

  • Format of Questions  → Floor Based Puzzles, Arranging by age, height, weight, rank, order in row etc.

  • Format of Question   → Coding by Letter Shifting, Coding in Fictitious Language. Expect Analogy based Fictitious Language as asked in IBPS PO Mains.

The IBPS SO exam pattern is almost same for selecting candidates to various specialist officers’ post. But the Exam Pattern for the post of LawOfficer & Rajbhasha Adhikari is quite different from and Other Specialist Officers IBPS SO 2017 Exam.
