Reasoning MCQ on ORDER AND RANKING

There are two types of ranking test in Analytical Reasoning

Sequential Order of Arrangement In this type of questions, persons or objects are arranged based on the comparison of parameters such as age, height, marks, salary, weight, length, size etc. Generally, we compare the persons or objects using various notations such as greater than (>), less than (<), equal to (-), greater than or equal to (2) and less than or equal to (5)

For example

Umesh is taller than Satish, Suresh is shorter than Neeraj but taller than Umesh. Who is the tallest among them?

(a) Umesh

(b) Suresh

(c) Satish

(d) Neeraj

Sol. (d) According to the question,

Umesh > Satish

Neeraj > Suresh > Umesh

Neeraj > Suresh Umesh > Satish

So, Neeraj is tallest among them.

Some Important Formulae for Ranking Test

Rank of a person from lower or right end= (Total number of persons in row) – (Rank of that person from upper or left end) +1 = (n-m) +1

E.g. If in a row of 26 boys, Ravi is at 17th position from left, then Ravi’s position from right end

= (26-17) +1                                                                                                                         (n =26, m =17)

= 27-17=10th
