THEORIES OF SOCIALISATION

Charles Horton Cooley introduced the concept of ‘Looking Glass self’ in his work ‘Human nature and the Social Order’ in 1902.

George Herbert Mead introduced the concept of ‘Social Self Theory’. According to him, ‘I’ and ‘Me’ are terms of central philosophy.

Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory  looks at a child’s development within the context of the system of relationships that form his or her environment. This theory has recently been renamed as ‘bioecological systems theory’ to emphasize child’s own biology is a primary environment fueling her development.

Theory of Mind is the ability to attribute mental states beliefs, intents, desires pretending, knowledge etc. to oneself and others and to understand that others have beliefs, desires, intentions and perspectives that are different from one’s own.
